Appearance
Monkey D. Dragon is a tall, middle-aged man standing at an imposing 256 cm (8'5"), easily recognized by his shaggy, spiky black hair with a prominent widow's peak and a distinctive tribal tattoo covering the left side of his face.
His most iconic feature consists of a deep-red (anime) or bright-red (manga) geometric, interlocking diamond-pattern tattoo. He notably appears to have no eyebrows, giving him a fierce stare, and has a slight shadow of stubble or a goatee on his chin. Dragon possesses a rigid sense of justice. He originally joined the Marines to improve the world, but he immediately quit when he witnessed their corruption during the God Valley Incident. True to the "Will of D," he views the world through a grand, mystic lens. Background
Dragon followed in the footsteps of his father, Monkey D. Garp, and enlisted in the Marines. However, he found no true justice within the system and ultimately left the Navy during the God Valley Incident after realizing they merely served as shields for the oppressive Celestial Dragons.
By age 30, Dragon founded a small, poorly funded anti-government militia called the Freedom Fighters. They engaged in minor protests and lacked the military power to stage a full-scale rebellion. The catalyst for Dragon’s total radicalization was the Buster Call on Ohara 22 years ago. Visiting the ruined island alongside Dr. Vegapunk, Dragon realized peaceful protests were useless against systemic genocide. He vowed to build a real army capable of fighting back, marking the moment he got his iconic facial tattoo.
In the same year as the Ohara tragedy, Dragon and Emporio Ivankov joined forces with Bartholomew Kuma. Together, they overthrew a tyrant in the Sorbet Kingdom and officially rebranded the Freedom Fighters into the Revolutionary Army.
Dragon has transitioned from a shadowy, background figure into an active general orchestrating the endgame of the One Piece world. Following the Reverie, Dragon and his commanders launched a highly coordinated campaign.
