I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too (often shortened to Iseleve) is a popular Japanese fantasy light novel series that has been adapted into a manga and an anime television series. The story follows a classic isekai (another world) premise, but with a unique twist: the main character can freely travel back and forth between Earth and a magical fantasy world, keeping his upgraded powers in both.

Core Premise

The core premise of I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too centers on a dual-world power fantasy where the main character can freely travel between Earth and a magical realm, with all his upgraded stats and abilities transferring between both worlds.

Yuuya Tenjo is an overweight, severely bullied, and neglected high school student who inherits his late grandfather's house. While cleaning the house, he discovers a hidden door that acts as a portal to a fantasy realm called Argena. In this new realm, he discovers game-like statistics, rare legendary weapons, and overpowered "cheat" skills.

Defeating monsters causes him to level up drastically, triggering a physical transformation that turns him into an exceptionally fit and handsome young man. Unlike standard isekai stories where the protagonist is permanently trapped or reincarnated in a fantasy world, Yuuya can freely step back and forth through the door.

The narrative thrives on a double wish-fulfillment loop. In the fantasy world, he learns magic, acquires legendary familiars, and protects kingdoms from catastrophic threats. Meanwhile, he brings those exact physical upgrades, confidence, and magical artifacts back to Earth. This completely upends his daily life, transitioning him from a social outcast into an overnight celebrity who excels at sports, modeling, and academia.

Key Themes

The core themes of I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too (Iseleve) revolve around escapism, extreme wish-fulfillment, and the contrast of a dual-world existence. Based on the light novel series by Miku, the story uses traditional isekai and video game tropes to address real-world anxieties before pivoting completely into an overpowered power fantasy.

  • Wish-Fulfillment and Power Fantasy: At its core, the series is an ultimate power fantasy designed for pure entertainment and escapism. The protagonist, Yuuya Tenjou, transitions from a severely disadvantaged underdog to a character who excels effortlessly at everything, ranging from legendary combat and magic in the fantasy realm to sports, academics, cooking, and modeling in the real world. His "cheat skills" allow him to overcome any obstacle with zero friction, providing the audience with a highly satisfying "glow-up" narrative.

  • Dual-World Dynamics and Balance: Unlike standard isekai series where the protagonist is permanently trapped or reincarnated in a fantasy realm, Iseleve relies heavily on the mechanics of a multi-world lifestyle. Yuuya can freely travel between Earth and the magical realm of Argena using a door in his grandfather’s house. The narrative continuously contrasts these two settings, exploring the chaotic nature of carrying video game-style stat growth, magical items, and combat level-ups directly back into everyday modern school life.

  • Bullying, Trauma, and Social Rejection: The narrative sets its stakes by tackling severe social issues early on. Yuuya suffers from brutal, relentless physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his peers, school teachers, and even his own parents and siblings. This backdrop addresses the deep-seated real-world anxieties of alienation and worthlessness, establishing a strong emotional drive for his sudden escape into a world that rewards his efforts rather than punishing his existence.

  • Physical Transformation vs. Internal Self-Worth: When Yuuya levels up in the alternate realm, his real-world body undergoes an immediate, radical metamorphosis. He transforms from an out-of-shape, heavily targeted boy into a tall, exceptionally handsome "chick magnet" with the features of a supermodel. Interestingly, fans have a general consensus that the theme of discovering true internal self-worth was largely abandoned, as his rapid external glow-up instantly solves all his social anxieties and flips how society treats him.

  • Kindness, Forgiveness, and Duty: Despite his swift physical and status upgrades, Yuuya retains his gentle, humble, and fundamentally passive personality. He struggles to view himself as the "overpowered" figure everyone else sees. This theme is highlighted by his strict sense of morality and family duty; even after achieving absolute power, he still moves to protect his abusive siblings when they find themselves in danger, choosing protection and forgiveness over petty revenge.

Main Character

  • Yuuya Tenjo: The protagonist. Originally a heavily bullied, overweight boy, his life shifts entirely after discovering a door to another world in his late grandfather's house. Leveling up in the fantasy realm grants him "cheat skills" and transforms him into an incredibly handsome, physically peak superhuman in the real world.

Argena Denizens (Another World)

  • Lexia von Arselia: The first princess of the Arselia Kingdom. After Yuuya rescues her from monsters, she falls deeply in love with him and boldly proposes marriage.

  • Luna: A highly skilled assassin from the Dark Guild who was originally hired to assassinate Lexia. After battling Yuuya, she changes her path and becomes Lexia's companion and personal bodyguard.

  • Owen: A loyal, fiercely protective knight captain who serves as Princess Lexia’s primary guardian.

  • The Sage (Zenis): The legendary figure who lived in the house before Yuuya. He left behind his dimensional house, unparalleled items, and the cheat skills that Yuuya inherits.

  • Prince Reigar (Rhaegar von Alceria): Lexia’s power-hungry half-brother. Driven by intense jealousy over who will inherit the throne, he orchestrates multiple plots against his sister, going as far as hiring the Dark Guild to assassinate her.

Yuuya's Familiars and Companions

  • Night: A Black Fenrir pup that Yuuya adopts in the Another World's Great Demon Territory. He serves as Yuuya's highly intelligent and loyal combat companion.

  • Akatsuki: A rare Moujuu (Meng Ju) or "Red Swine" piglet who possesses powerful barrier and purification magic, acting as a defensive pet.

  • Ouma: A legendary Genesis Dragon who joins Yuuya's household. Despite his small, cute form on Earth, he holds world-ending power.

  • Ciel: A massive bird companion (a Garuda) that accompanies Yuuya.

Earth Denizens (Ousei Academy and Associates)

  • Kaori Hojo: The compassionate daughter of Ousei Academy's chairman. She originally met Yuuya before his physical transformation when he defended her from delinquents, and she later invites him to join her prestigious school.

  • Kaede Kazama: A popular, athletic girl at Ousei Academy who belongs to the track team and is openly flirtatious toward Yuuya.

  • Ryou Igarashi: A charismatic, athletic student who quickly hits it off with Yuuya and becomes one of his closest male friends at school.

  • Rin Kanzaki and Yukine Hyoudou: Fellow students at Ousei Academy who comprise Yuuya's tight-knit class circle.

  • Takeshi Araki: A brutal, third-rate thug and leader of the notorious "Red Ogre" biker group. He is the primary source of Yuuya's physical torment on Earth before Yuuya's transformation and later targets Kaori Hojo before being single-handedly stopped by Yuuya.

  • Yota and Sora Tenjo: Yuuya's younger twin siblings. Massively favored and spoiled by their parents, they viewed Yuuya as a subhuman "loser" and relentlessly abused and humiliated him alongside their school peers.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Tenjo: Yuuya's biological parents. Completely unloving and abusive, they neglected and disowned Yuuya solely because of his original physical appearance while doting entirely on the twins. They eventually face severe karmic and legal consequences for their actions.

The Holy Saints and The Evils

  • Usagi (Rabbit): A Divine Beast holding the title of "Kick Saint" who takes Yuuya under his wing to train him in deadly martial arts.

  • Yuti (Yuty): A young girl who was the disciple of the "Bow Saint" but was corrupted by the Vile power of "The Evil". Yuuya eventually purifies her, and she joins him on Earth as a student.

  • Iris Knowblade: The powerful "Sword Saint" who assists in defending the fantasy realm.

  • Kuro: The actual manifestation and essence of "The Evil" itself. It is a conscious, malicious entity that requires negative emotions to amplify its power and possess hosts.
