Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy (Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Dōchū) is a popular Japanese fantasy light novel series written by Kei Azumi that has expanded into a successful manga and anime franchise. The story belongs to the "isekai" subgenre, where an ordinary protagonist is suddenly transported or summoned into an alternate, magical universe. The narrative follows Makoto Misumi, a completely normal high school student who is summoned to another world because of a historical contract made by his parents.

The core premise of Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy revolves around a subverted isekai setup where an ordinary high school student, Makoto Misumi, is summoned to another world by a goddess to become a hero, only to be instantly rejected, stripped of his title, and banished to the edge of the world because the goddess finds him too ugly.

Makoto's parents originally hailed from this fantasy world but eloped to Earth. They made a contract with the realm's Goddess, promising that one of their children would be sent back to serve as a hero. Makoto volunteers to go to protect his sisters. The ruling deity of the new world possesses a shallow, obsessive preference for physical beauty. Deeming Makoto too "hideous" to interact with hyuman (the species of humans in this alternate world) society, she strips his hero title.

As petty compensation, she curses him with the ability to understand and speak every language, except for the hyuman tongue. She then tosses him into the "Wasteland," the absolute harshest, monster-filled edge of the world. Before he falls, a compassionate Japanese moon deity named Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto steps in to help. He blesses Makoto with tremendous power and freedom to live his life however he chooses.

Because Makoto grew up under Earth's heavy gravity and environmental conditions, entering this fantasy world unlocks astronomical physical and magical capabilities. His latent mana pools are so vast that he effectively possesses god-like power.

Unable to converse with standard hyumans, Makoto accidentally tames and befriends powerful mythical monsters, including a high dragon (Tomoe) and a calamity spider (Mio). Together, they build a hidden, thriving paradise city where demi-humans, monsters, and outcasts can peacefully coexist completely off the Goddess's radar.
