Core Premise

The core premise of Berserk of Gluttony revolves around a young man named Fate Graphite who lives in a rigid fantasy world where born-with magical skills completely dictate a person's social status and worth. The story builds on several dark fantasy and RPG-inspired mechanics.

Fate is born with a skill called Gluttony. For years, it appears completely useless, serving only to make him perpetually, agonizingly hungry no matter how much food he eats. Because of this seemingly garbage skill, he is cast to the absolute bottom of society, suffering severe abuse and working as a low-level gatekeeper.

The status quo shatters when Fate kills a trespassing castle thief. Upon taking a life, the true nature of Gluttony activates: he devours the soul, permanent stats, and magical skills of the defeated target. For the first time in his entire life, his gnawing hunger is briefly satisfied, unlocking a path to infinite growth that completely bypasses the world's standard leveling concepts.

To sustain his newfound power and maintain his sanity, Fate must continuously kill and consume souls. If he goes too long without feeding, his Gluttony skill will enter a "berserk" state, threatening to completely erase his mind and turn him into a mindless, murderous monster. He balances this dark hunger by targeting monsters and corrupt individuals while wielding a sentient, talking sword named Greed.

Key Themes

The key themes of the dark fantasy series Berserk of Gluttony revolve around the psychological burden of absolute power, the systemic corruption of societal hierarchies, and the constant battle to preserve one's humanity. The narrative explores how a marginalized individual handles a sudden, insatiable capability for destruction.

  • The Burden of Power and Addiction: The central power mechanic, the Mortal Sin skill "Gluttony," functions heavily as a metaphor for addiction and unchecked desire. Fate Graphite becomes immensely overpowered by "devouring" the stats and skills of those he kills, but the skill keeps Fate in a perpetual state of physical and mental starvation. If he stops consuming souls, he risks losing his mind to absolute madness. In this way, power is portrayed not as a gift, but as a dangerous, self-destructive curse.

  • Classism and Corrupt Hierarchies: The story takes place in the Kingdom of Seifort, a dystopian LitRPG world where born "skills" strictly dictate social worth. The wealthy elite (like the corrupt Holy Knights) exploit the lower classes based on inherent stat advantages.

  • The Concept of Worth: For years, Fate is treated like human garbage because his skill appears useless on the surface. The narrative highlights how absolute authority systems breed cruelty, leaving the weak at the mercy of tyrannical leaders.

  • Retaining Humanity vs. Becoming the Monster: Fate constantly wrestles with a classic dark fantasy dilemma: maintaining a moral compass while dealing with a horrific power. Fate must actively resist the urge to butcher everyone around him to feed his weapon, Greed, and his own hunger. Characters like the genuinely compassionate Holy Knight, Roxy Hart, serve as Fate's tether to his fading humanity.

  • Vengeance vs. Justice: Fate struggles to balance his lingering resentment toward the nobility with his desire to protect the innocent.
